Irrational Fears on Leaving

Heyyyy everyone!!!!!

So this is me mulling over how I feel about my time abroad and figuring out these dang blogger settings at the same time. I'm also watching Teen Mom in the other window and trying to figure out the best color to paint my raggedy nails - Yayyy for multi-tasking. : ) .

Soooo here's a few reasons I'm excited beyond belief for next quarter. Getting off Stanford's campus. (!!!!!!). German beer. German pretzels. Berlin art scene. Berlin nightlife. Currywurst. Being a stone's throw away from Poland. Getting to know a new, small, really cool group of people. Visiting ValandKatyrose and other wonderful high school people across Europe.

Here's a few reasons I'm low-key terrified of next quarter. Do I speak a single word of German? Noooo. Oh I lied. I can say bier (English translation: beer). Took me a while to figure that one out haha. But really - one word? I'll let y'all know how that goes with the getting around and such. And why does every German word seeim to be about 10 syllables long and end in stein or dam? I can't friggin differentiate. Does Berlin have a Catholic church? Ignorant question I'm sure but I'm still concerned. And even if I do find one in the Protestant haven, will there be English services? Highly doubtful. And my final, really irrational fear. What if I need something, say contact lens solution. But I can't read the words so I end up getting something like acid, which burns my eyes and I can never find my way home to the States again? Also, what does one wear when they go clubbing in the cold? I'm only used to going out in LA (not many clothes required) or Stanford (not many clothes required + large overcoat). But in Berlin it's cold. Like really cold. Not throw on a coat have a shot to warm up and your fine cold. How does one dress for that? Do they play hip-hop in German clubs? How does one use a German ATM without speaking any German? Is there a Starbucks in Germany? I know I'm supposed to be soaking up the culture and all of that but hey, I can't help my addiction. I actually just looked it up online, there's a bunch in Berlin. Phew, alright, one question answered, a few more to go. I'll let you all know as the answers start rollin' in.

P.s. I intend on keeping an unrated version of this blog, which only my good friends (you know who you are) are going to have access to. Uncensored, unrated, uncut. Available upon request.

Love y'all !!!!!!!!!!!! Will keep updating as more interesting things happen. But I'm bored at home so a few more pre-Berlin posts may be coming your way.

  1. Hahaha oh wow I can tell this is going to be fun.
    My favorite bits:
"Is there a Starbucks in Germany?" (along with the fact that you've already looked this question up)
"Uncensored, unrated, uncut. Available upon request."

  3. LOL Pani Courtney you'll do fine. I know you're gonna have a blast. While you're there, go to some real Berlin cafes and soak up the atmosphere! You can still feed your addiction!!

And yes, I am certain that they have Catholic churches in Berlin even though its all dirty and corrupted (aka Protestant :P). And I am also sure you can find one with English services. I know for a fact Vienna has them, so I bet Berlin does too. But if you wanna have fun, go to a Latin one where they do it all old-fashioned! Its really cool.

  5. PANI KORNELIA!

Of course Berlin is going to be great and I am going to be massively jealous of you. (You'd better go visit Poland...along those lines I must have a more extensive conversation about Poland with you.)

I can't give you a ton of advice since my only time in the Berlin area was to buy cheap clothes, but...

Clubbing in the cold: A couple things that worked in Moscow were having a button-down sweater that I could take off really conveniently with my coat and wearing knee socks over tights. It might sound weird
but I usually did black-on-black and it looked surprisingly normal...also I've heard Berlin is kind of kinky so you can pass it off as a schoolgirl thing. Shots help too (I wonder if they have Zubrowka in Berlin? lol).

The ATM: Don't worry about it, most of the time English is an option.

Hip-hop: You'll probably have to look to find it, but if they had it in Krakow... :)

Waaah I miss you. I want access to your unrated version!
